PJ B-Day

Parker’s 2nd Birthday party was last weekend. I bought an inflatable jumper for her and the kids which was a hit. Parker was sick and in kind of a haze most of the time but I think she had fun. She’s a really sociable little girl; I hope that continues.

I was sick as well and just trying to endure the day. Oh well, such is life.

We’ll be finding out the sex of baby #2 in the next couple of weeks. Just to get some name ideas I’m considering out there…here’s a quick list:

Boy- Jackson Clifford, Sydney, William, er...that’s about it
Girl- - Soledad, Georgia, Marcelle, Calpurnia, Clementine, Kilbey

Feeling sickly

Enjoyed a nice 4 day weekend, unfortunately, Parker was sick on her birthday and throughout the weekend. Of course, osmosis runs its course and I’m sick too, Laura’s not thankfully. Her birthday was pretty quiet yet nice, she wanted a mouse for her birthday…she likes mice and hates wolves. We laid in the spare bed a lot and watched t.v., it was quite nice. I have a good time with her, it’s so much different than the first year when a child isn’t that responsive to you but after that first year they become more and more “human” and their personality starts to come out and they want to be around you and ask that repetitive question “what you doing” every 3-5 minutes.
So I'm back to work now and loving every minute of being incredibly sick and working.

10 in the Bed

I awoke to PJ making noise this morning at about 5:30, went to see if she was ok…she was naked. I picked her up, took her to the potty where she pee’d for days and days. After that I took her to bed with us; she fell asleep…I didn’t. Laura is 4+ months pregnant which means there’s 4 to 6 pillows surrounding her body in various positions. So if you add that visual to the visual of PJ spreading her arms out while she’s sleeping…

there’s no room for me ;-(

So I laid there for about a half and hour thinking of songs for Laura’s birthday cd. I came up with a few ideas, then proceeded to forget most of them. One idea stuck, I have a melody (simple one) and a lyrical idea of writing a song about her days of playing basketball. I need to talk to her mom and dad to get more info on her career at Buena. I know she’s very proud of it so a song about it would make her happy…we’ll see if I can pull it off.
So I came into work early because there’s no room for me in our bed. How’s this going to work with another child? I think we should’ve bought a king size bed instead. Regardless, nothing is more comforting to me than to have my two special ladies curled up beside me in bed. I can't complain. :-)

I'm Beethoven Damnit!

I’m writing a song for Laura’s birthday which is coming up next month. I came up with the idea today driving into work. I wrote her a special Valentine’s Day song a few year’s back and she was somewhat smitten by the idea of me writing a song for her. It didn’t take too long to record but it was hard trying to record it when she wasn’t around. That same problem will probably be this time as well.

So…I have a new music project! Kinda exciting and easy being that it’s only one song and not an entire cd. Also, I have a whole month and a half to think about what I want to say and how I want to say it. I pride myself on the ability to insert inside jokes and references that only she would get. I also put pressure on my self to outwit my prior writings and put something down that I think is interesting, witty, creative, profound, adorning, historically relevant, comical, etc…. I think I’ll enlist the help of other people to write a song or two as well. I think if she got a cd with several songs on it all in regards to her birthday she’d be one happy girl.

A melody came to me this morning driving into work but of course, I’ve forgotten it. I hate when that happens, and it happens a lot! Damn you NPR!! So now I gotta try to remember it or try something new. What was kinda scary was that I envisioned the chords behind the melody at the same time. Does that make me some sort of musical Svengali?? I mean the chord progression was a simple C-G-Am-E and it could sound like crap but hey…I’m Beethoven damnit!! Although he was deaf…and is music was a tad more complex and easier on the ear than mine.

…I fear not

So now the easy part…writing and recording some songs behind her back that include some profound statements about her and her birthday and that are easy on the ear. Here we go again.

Interesting Evening

Parker was quite concerned last night with wolves getting into the house. She was referring to a three little pigs book that had a picture of a wolf in it. The interesting part was her ability to talk. It’s difficult to repeat her “rant” however I can paraphrase it. Her are some snippets based on my memory and:

“ I don’t like wolves, I don’t like them in the house, they can’t come in the house. They have to stay outside and look at “kidmas” lights. They no go into the house, they no play with my baby doll, they no play with my shopping cart, they no play with my kitchen either”.

What’s do intriguing is watching her as she speaking, she’s really trying to put words together. Sometimes she’s pausing and/or stuttering a bit because she’s not sure how to say it. Either way it’s fun to be apart of it.
Last night Laura put up a Potty Chart. She was very excited about it, that’ll die off soon enough. But she was excited enough to drop a “deuce” last night. We were both oh, so happy with her performance.

Good Morning

I don’t know why but there’s something special to me about sleeping with PJ in bed with us. I really enjoy it. It provides some sort of solace I guess. I realized it in August when we were in San Francisco assisting our friend Jason with dying of cancer (an intentionally morbid way of saying it) and PJ was sleeping in the same room as us. Some nights she would wake up and make noise and with other people sleeping in the adjacent room I did my best to quiet her which would include bringing her to bed with us. Some times she would fall asleep there in bed with us. She would put her arms over her head and lay there as quiet as a mouse…just sleeping.
This morning she made some noise so I took her to bed with us and she fell asleep. If I didn’t have to get up and go to work I would’ve fell asleep as well. Normally I wouldn’t fall asleep again but I bet I would if she was in bed with us. Kinda odd I think. What type of solace am I getting out of that? Hmmmmmmm.

A Family Nietzsche Circus

The extended New Year’s weekend was quite a weekend I would say. Parker is making great strides at being potty trained. She’s talking so much now too, what’s especially enjoyable about her talking is that her sense of humor is already starting to show. She’s one goofy girl, much like her mother…and that’s a good thing. But what really strikes me is her inflections, for example, when she says the word “more” she puts this Massachusetts –like accent to it that sounds phonetically like “mo-uh”. It’s so damn cute. The other thing I’ve noticed this weekend is her constant attention to what it is we’re doing. Here’s a brief list of observations:
-Always saying “Daddy, what are you doing?”
-Repeatedly jokes around about “poo poo in her mouth”
-She’s referring to me as “Will” once in a while which is cute.
-Loves wearing panties
-She loves being naked even more
-I wish she’d keep her clothes on
-She can run “like the Dickens”

And she’s not even two years old yet.
Yes, it was a memorable weekend for me…much more to come.
