Parker and Ella |
We ventured into the world of track this year. It was Parker's first experience with it and my first experience as a parent. I have such fond memories of the 10 years I ran for the Tigres starting at age 5. I really talked it up to Parker as the season started, hoping she would enjoy it as much as I did.
Parker started out loving it. She enjoyed the friends she made, the handstands and patty cake games played between events. She especially liked the practices held at Arroyo Verde; running the trails and doing cartwheels during the down times. But about three quarters of the way through the season she started asking me if she had to run again next year.

Parker ran the 400 meter dash this year. This is a very hard event and I was so proud of her each time she came across the finish line. Her best time was 1:40. During the last 100 meters her legs get wobbly and she looks so tired. I remember that feeling so well and I am so proud of her for pushing through the discomfort this race requires.

I love this pictures of Ella. She likes to start like she is in blocks. Today I saw her start in this position for long jump. She's adorable. She also did so much jumping and shaking out her legs before the 100m (like she's seen the big girls do) that I was worried she would be fatigued by the time her race started.
